DIY: Vest Extenders

Posted in Accessories, DIY, Riding Gear with tags on December 29, 2010 by AnakAmaGuro

Since I got my leather vest, I have been wanting to get a set of vest extenders. Problem is, they’re not sold locally. So what does one do in such a predicament? make one.

So here are your basic materials:

1.Contact Cement 2.Pliers 3.Lighter 4.Scissors 5.D-Rings (8 pieces) 6.Ball point pen 7.Chain (preferably chromed) 8.Shrinkable tubes 9.Leather (cut into straps)

Step 1: Make 8 equal lengths of chain from two wallet chains (I purchased mine from a department store in the men’s accessories section).

Step 2: Attach 2 chain lengths to a D-ring on both ends.

Step 3: Insert a cut shrinkable tube into the D-ring before closing it. The tube’s length should be just right – it should allow space for the chain ends on each corner of the D-ring.

Step 4: Close the D-rings with two pairs of pliers.

Step 5: Slide the shrinkable tube into the middle of te chains and light it up to shrink it and conceal the opening of the D-ring. Note; not only does the tube conceal the opening, it also prevents the top chain from sliding down to the bottom of the D-ring.

Step 6: Insert the leather straps through the D-rings, placing the slotted center on the bend of the D-ring.

Step 7: Apply contact cement and let it stand for a good 5 minutes.

Step 8: Close the leather flaps, making the cornered ends meet.

This is what it should look like:

Make four of this, and:

They’re ready for stamping snap-on buttons just like the ones you have on your vest.

I took mine to a local tailor’s shop to have them stamped. Sadly, they only had 3 pairs of the buttons, so I’m one button short. The next best option? Your friendly upholstery shop. I took them to the same shop who made my leather sissy bar bag. Paid P10 per pair and tipped the guy another P10.

here’s how they look like now:

All done!

Cruise-mas Get Together 2010

Saturday, December 18, 2010.

Albeit the gentle rain that misted our night lenses, Cruisers from different clubs and walks of life gathered together for a quick dinner and hang out at Blue Wave, Macapagal Avenue, Pasay City.

Before we called it a night, the group decided to ride out to Malate, Manila. One must be there to experience what it’s like to hear thunder in your ears and feel it rumble between your legs too.

The usual night creatures of Malate probably were temporarily transported to Madrid and thought of stampeding bulls, as 20 plus cruisers thumped the already noisy streets.

There were even those who cheered us on as we passed them. Whistling and waving as we commanded steel thunder at the will of our wrists.

To all those who attended the event, thank you.

Ride safe brothers.
